Bio:
Joseph Sholders, M.D.
Dr. Sholders has been with Aldea since
1975 serving as the in-house child psychiatrist and later
on as Medical Director for Aldea programs.
In 1975 Allen Ewig and I met, and I began
my working relationship with Aldea. My work with
Aldea has expanded over the years, and I now interface
with both counseling centers in Napa and Fairfield, Adapt,
Redwood, Supported Living Services, Foster Care and administration.
Historically, my professional time has been spent providing
direct services. This means working with the client, their
family, and the Aldea therapists to arrive at a treatment
plan.
As a child psychiatrist and Medical Director
I provide psychiatric consultation to treating clinicians
to aid in the diagnostic clarity and treatment planning.
Cases are usually referred to me by an Aldea therapist
who is acquainted with the child or adult and has assessed
a need for additional treatment. This relationship is
very valuable and gives me considerable information before
my first meeting with the client. Additionally, I evaluate
the need for medication and provide on-going medication
management, which, when combined with family and individual
therapy is often significantly helpful and successful.
Depression, Bi-Polar Disorder, Attention-Deficit Disorders,
Anxiety Disorders, and PTSD are my most prevalent diagnostic
issues. I also provide on-going consultations to clinical
staff to assist in program development and implementation
of clinical services.
I love the Aldea family. It is a blessing
to pursue meaningful work with the competent and
compassionate people of Aldea. I am also grateful to the
author Ken Wilber and for the wisdom he shares in his
books. His work expanded my world and opened doors
to a fuller and more spiritual life.
